About
I’m Joanna, and I honestly can’t remember a time when I didn’t garden. My love of growing things started in childhood with a few vegetable plants grown from seed and quickly became a lifelong obsession. I’ve gardened in all sorts of places, each with its own challenges, and my passion for plants has only grown.
I gained my RHS Level 2 horticulture qualification in 2009 and have continued to build hands‑on experience ever since. I also volunteer as a gardener in an NHS setting in South Yorkshire, caring for a historic walled garden and supporting patients to experience the huge health and wellbeing benefits that gardening can bring.

I follow one simple rule in every garden I work in: the right plant in the right place. If a plant isn’t suited to its spot, it wastes your time, money, energy and enthusiasm. As a mum in a busy household, I also understand that a garden has to work for real life, not just look good in a photo.
It’s lovely to visit grand and beautiful gardens, but what they’re really great for is providing inspiration and ideas to take home to your own garden. Your garden might need to offer a calm and relaxing space, support your wellbeing with a connection to nature, be a space to entertain and provide play-space for children or pets. It might need to be a productive area for growing food and flowers, or even work as a practical extension to your indoor living space, including being somewhere to hang the washing!
Choosing the plants that will help you achieve what you want from your garden — and knowing how to care for them within your time, skills, and budget — is key to creating an outdoor space that truly supports your life. My aim is to help you grow and create a garden that feels personal, manageable and rewarding for you.
All the garden photos you’ll see on this website (apart from the two where I’m in a dress instead of my usual wellies) show gardens I’ve developed or cared for, and garden produce I’ve grown myself.
